Ways to Give
What’s a “Tithe” and why do so many churches reference it?
A tithe (10% of our income) is a frequently referenced starting point when it comes to faithful giving. It appears primarily in the Old Testament portion of the Bible, but the practice is affirmed by Jesus in Matthew 23:23.
The Bible teaches that we are stewards who have been entrusted with God’s resources. God’s people are expected to offer God our first and our best to Him.
The emphasis in Scripture is to treat everything as God’s property and to hold nothing back when God asks. Presenting tithes and offerings is a means by which we demonstrate the sincerity of our faith. Below are reference scriptures:
- Leviticus 27:30-32; Deuteronomy 12:6-17; Deuteronomy 26:1-19; 2 Chronicles 31:6; Nehemiah 13:12; Malachi 3:10
